Born in Cublington, Bucks in Q2-1894 [Aylesbury 3a:725], baptised 29th April 1894, son of Ernest and Rose HALSEY (née KIMBLE)
of Garden Hedge, Leighton Buzzard.
1901 census...William [7] was at Garden Hedge, Leighton Buzzard with his father Ernest G [29] labourer born Cublington, Bucks.; his mother Rosa [28] born Hoggeston and his sister Ethel [8]; brothers Joseph[5] and Edward [3] all born in Cublington and brother John [10 months] born in Leighton Buzzard. 1911 census...William [17] was a domestic worker, at 83 New Mill End, Luton, with his parents and brothers Joseph; Edward and John, and new siblings Florence [7] and Bertie [6] both born Chalk Farm, Beds, and Frederick [1] born New Mill End. He was a stableman in 1915 and married Kate DRAKE (b.23-1-1891) in Chippenham, Cambridgeshire on 2nd June 1915. His age given as 22 and Kate's as 24 and his father's name given as Ernest (Farm Bailiff). Kate re married in Q3-1818 to Cyril WOOLLARD of Chippenham). The pension card initially has Kate at 46 Lowther Street, Newmarket, but later at Bishops Cannings near Devizes. |

The Newmarket Journal reported that he died in Tidworth Military Hospital. The pension card gives the cause as appendicitis. His death was registered Andover 2c:290. That and his CWGC headstone and listing
by CWGC is the only record of military service. No Medal Card has been found. Since he was with the Reserve Brigade, it would seem to indicate he never served
overseas. He was awarded a war gratuity, so must have had at least 6 months home service. |
